MACAO, December 29 – The 21st The Macao City Fringe Festival, organized by the Office of Cultural Affairs (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be held from January 12 to 23, with 20 extraordinary programs and 15 outreach activities. Adopting the concept of “All around the city, our stages, our patrons, our artists”, this year’s Fringe Festival will continue to bring art into the community and will keep the participatory exhibition “Art Exhibition for All”, to provide the public with a space to demonstrate creativity and talent. Interested parties are invited to submit works of art or improvise on site.

“Art Exhibition for All” will be held in the space next to Flower City Park from January 12 to 17, then move to the Praça das Orquídeas recreation area from January 18 to 23. All interested parties can submit their works with a completed application form to the Cultural Affairs Office building located in Tap Siac Square during office hours January 4-10, at the space next to Flower City Park between 12 noon. and 8 p.m. on January 11, or at exhibition sites from January 12 to 23. Creativity comes first, whatever the shapes and themes. An improvisation area will also be available on site to allow the public to unleash their creativity, demonstrating that everyone can be an artist. Nomination forms can be downloaded from the IC website at www.icm.gov.mo or from the Festival Fringe website at www.macaucityfringe.gov.mo.

This year’s Fringe Festival will offer a range of wonderful programs, bringing a whole new artistic experience to the audience. The sound theater Back home The Edinburgh Fringe Showcase, held in the former residence of General Ye Ting, is a unique participatory performance in which the audience will act as characters to tell the stories, transcending artistic boundaries of the past and demonstrating the charm of the theater. In the show Dancing veins of “Crème de la Fringe: Todos Fest!”, seniors will share their memories of Macau with the audience through dance, showing off their creative flair. Using the Danceability Method and elements of symbiotic dance, the show Body specific! from “Cream of the Fringe: Todos Fest!” will allow the public to enjoy dances created with unique physical characteristics. In addition, the audience of the show Tenant of “Cream of the Fringe: Iao Hon” will act as tenants and seek apartments for rent, to experience the stories and changes of Iao Hon in person. The show Passing from “Crème de la Fringe: Iao Hon” is a boxed play that will take stock of Iao Hon’s changes while imagining his future. The “No Junk Mail” outreach activity will record Iao Hon’s appearances and stories on postcards and send them to different corners of the city. Another awareness-raising activity “Iao Hon Pop-up Store” will connect the whole community with a hawker stand and allow passers-by and residents of the Iao Hon neighborhood to exchange stories with second-hand items.
