Thursday, May 19, 2022

Macao (Agenzia Fides) – Within the framework of the year of action for marriage and the family proclaimed by Pope Francis as “Year of the family – Amoris Letitia”, the Catholic Church of Macao has launched numerous initiatives, including the charity sale of masks, family workshops, the basketball competition with teams of parents and children, a study seminar on the history of the Church in Macau. On April 24, the purpose of the mask sale was to raise funds for various projects aimed at bringing the diocese together as a family in a spirit of charity. Previously, the family meeting on March 26 aimed to illustrate family ties in the spirit of “Amoris lætitia” through a photo exhibition. The meeting ended with a solemn joint thanksgiving. At the start of the campaign year, Fr. Stephen Lee made it a priority to bring the faithful closer to the figure of Saint Joseph and his role in the Holy Family. After more than 400 years of evangelization history, the Diocese of Macao today has a total of nine parishes, 32 ecclesiastical educational institutions and about 50 charitable organizations. Following in the footsteps of missionaries, including Jesuits, Franciscans, Augustinians, Dominicans, more than 30,000 faithful are active in society today, supported by 21 priests and around 200 religious.
