Hongkong Post will maintain essential postal services

Hongkong Post said on Sunday it would continue to provide essential mail services, including registered mail, amid the severe Covid-19 outbreak.

The announcement comes after the Postal Service said it would suspend local parcel and courier services from Monday until further notice.

The department will continue to provide essential local and international postal services.

The local registered mail service will allow senders to send items up to 2kg, while items up to 20kg can be sent using the EC-Get service.

A message will be sent to the recipients on arrival of the shipments informing them to collect their shipments from post offices or iPostal Agencies.

In the statement, the department added that it would deploy resources to address labor shortages resulting from the absence of staff testing positive for Covid-19.

“Hongkong Post apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the adjustment of its services,” it said.

A large number of post office staff have tested positive for the coronavirus since the start of the fifth wave, causing the temporary closure of several offices.
