Macau and Zhuhai team up to foster business and trade cooperation in technology sector


MACAO, June 10 – Under the theme “Macao-Zhuhai Development Cooperation”, a software and IC industry business exchange event was held on June 10. The event was held simultaneously at two venues in Macau and Zhuhai, where industry representatives from both cities shared their views on business and investment. Representatives from the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) attended the event at the main site of Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin to introduce Zhuhai entrepreneurs to the business environment and Macao’s advantages, with a view to advancing the development of technology and innovation, and expanding the scope of cooperation between the two places.

Online-offline and dual venue event

Adopting a hybrid online and offline mode, the event was held at the Hengqin International Trade Center in the Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, with a sub-venue at IPIM’s multifunctional conference hall. . Around 70 experts and industry representatives attended the event online and offline.

IPIM Acting President Vincent U said in his speech that the event was held simultaneously in Zhuhai and Macau to facilitate the attendance of industry representatives from both places. In the future, IPIM will continue to explore different modes of cooperation in the hope that Zhuhai and Macao will form regional synergy and deepen cross-disciplinary collaboration to drive innovation and share the fruits of success. An effort will also be made to implement the “MICE + Science and Innovation” initiative.

According to Wang Wei, deputy director of the Zhuhai Municipal Bureau of Commerce, cooperation between Zhuhai and Macao has grown over the years, with its achievements being exceptionally evident in the fields of investment and trade. In 2021, Zhuhai’s exports to Macau amounted to RMB 4.852 billion, an increase of 18.4%. He also expressed his hope that participating entrepreneurs would benefit from this event by actively expanding and strengthening collaboration.

Wang Yi, general manager of Zhu Kuan Group Company Limited, said software and ICs are the core of the information industry and the key impetus driving the latest round of technological and industrial revolution. In the future, he added, the mutual complementary advantages of Zhuhai and Macao enterprises will demonstrate even stronger advantages by fully exploring innovative industrial development models. By promoting capital and industrial cooperation, Zhuhai and Macao are committed to making new contributions to Macao’s diversified economic development and integrating the city into the country’s development framework.

Going above and beyond to promote Macau’s business advantages

At the event, representatives from the Zhuhai Municipal Bureau of Commerce presented the current status of investment and cooperation with Macau, as well as related supporting policies. Representatives from IPIM introduced participants to Macau’s investment and business environment as well as the investor’s “one-stop-shop” service and business matching services. Representatives of technology companies from Zhuhai and Macao also had in-depth discussions and exchanges on cooperation needs.

The event was organized by Zhuhai Zhu Kuan Group Company Limited, together with IPIM, Zhuhai Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Economic Development Office of Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and China Business Association of Macao as guiding entities.

In addition, IPIM representatives visited Dong Fan, chairman of the Zhuhai Federation of Industry and Commerce and chairman of the Zhuhai Chamber of Commerce, with a view to urging more Zhuhai enterprises to invest in Macau. The delegation also followed the progress of a listed mainland medical equipment company that plans to establish its international headquarters in Macau through the Investor’s “one-stop-shop” services, to provide assistance and to promote the development of large health industry in Macao. In the future, IPIM will continue to expand channels to attract investment and strive to attract industries and projects conducive to Macau’s proper economic diversification.
