The 32nd Macau Arts Festival kicks off with Free Man from the South, invigorating the power of the times through poetry

MACAO, 29 April – Organized by the Office of Cultural Affairs (IC, by its Portuguese acronym), on 32n/a The Macau Arts Festival (MAF), themed “Reinvigorate”, opened on April 29 at the Macau Cultural Center, showcasing a number of outstanding productions, invigorating the power of the times through an array of artistic forms. art and broadening artistic experiences in different fields. With a focus on programs from Macau and mainland China, this edition of MAF kicked off with the opening program Southern Freeman, a contemporary dance theatrical production created by renowned choreographer Willy Tsao. Ingeniously inspired by 26 well-known poems by Tang dynasty poet Li Bai, this production features 14 dancers who lead the audience to explore the poetic realm and immerse themselves in the poet’s beautiful world of mountain, water, flower and moon through poetry, dance and music. With a script rewritten by local Cantonese opera veteran Chu Chan Wa based on the Chinese literary classic Weird Tales from a Chinese Studio, The Ghost of Liaozhai will be held on May 1, where outstanding and emerging local artists will jointly present the cultural essence of Cantonese opera.

Multiple Performances of Technical Theater Production Charles I will take place from May 3 to 11. Inspired by the old D. Carlos I wharf and based on years of field research, local chronicles, oral history and other elements, the production offers the audience a performance without actors but only live installations. lighting, sound and space.

Patuá theatrical production love cruise will be held from May 7 to 8, exploring the city’s affairs through a luxury cruise on its first voyage in the post-pandemic era, and promoting the valuable and unique national intangible cultural heritage through performing arts. The interactive family game doodle POP, which will be held from May 7 to 8, will take audiences of all ages on an underwater journey in search of a small turtle through creative interactions, inspiring limitless creativity in the world of picture books. On May 7, the Macau Orchestra will present a live orchestral performance of the classic film The Rider of the Rosecreated in the 1920s, adapted from the eponymous opera by Richard Strauss, depicting a romantic story full of wit and humor through music.
